Sensor+Test 2021
In recent years, the demands placed on component-integrated electronics have risen so sharply in many industries that they can often no longer be met with conventional electronic components. As an alternative, printed electronics is on the advance.
Experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen, Germany, will be demonstrating their newest solutions in this area at the digital Sensor+Test 2021 from May 4–6, 2021. Highlights include the fully printed, smart component and the printed piezo multilayer actuators.
At Fraunhofer ILT, the 3D printing process for producing structural components using LPBF is combined with the functional printing for the application of sensors on top and inside the components. The fully digitally produced component with component-integrated sensor technology enables permanent component monitoring and the detection of overload conditions when installed. This is combined with wireless telemetry from i4M-Technologies.
Piezoelectric layers can be deposited via a wet chemical route using PZT sol-gel materials and are selectively crystallized using laser radiation. In combination with printed electrodes in multilayer composites, multilayer actuators are fabricated that promise greater stroke and dynamics in the future. Examplary applications are printed piezo loudspeakers or microrelays
A laser-based in-volume manufacturing process makes it possible to introduce defined light-shading structures fully digitally into optical systems. In this case, the incorporation of structures allows the light scattering within the optical system to be influenced and thus a defined illumination of LEDs within the optics to be realized. The development of the Fraunhofer ILT's processing method was carried out as part of the Fraunhofer lead project »Go Beyond 4.0« in collaboration with Fraunhofer ENAS, IWU, IFAM, IOF and ISC.
