FAQ

Do you have questions about the application process, what documents you need, or just want to be on the safe side? Here are some frequently asked questions and our answers.

  • It's easy through the application portal! Click on the green »Apply now« button on the right side of the job advertisement that caught your eye. You will be redirected to our portal where you can either register or log in if you already have an account (e.g. if you've applied to Fraunhofer before). Simply follow the instructions here, fill in all the information and submit your application – voilá, done! 🙌

  • The application portal requires certain information to complete your application. This includes your contact information, resume, and the job-specific information you enter in the appropriate form. 👍

You don't need to provide additional information about your work experience or education (marked as optional), we can see that on your resume. Please also upload any current certificates, transcripts and other relevant documents as »Additional Files«. This will help us to better assess your academic and professional qualifications.

  • Yes, you can use your existing account to simplify future applications. But it's worth double-checking your documents to make sure they don't need updating. 😉

  • Yes, our application portal allows you to pause the process and continue later. ⏳

  • Yes, we update our job listings regularly to give you the most up-to-date opportunities 🙂.

  • ⚠ Note: Please always apply through our application portal! This is the only way we can consider you for a position.

Once you have successfully applied, your data will be immediately reviewed by our recruiting team and your qualifications will be checked. If you meet the job requirements, your application will be forwarded to the hiring manager for further review. If you make the short list, you will be invited for an in-person interview. If the chemistry is right, you will have the opportunity to present yourself in more detail in a second interview.

You will then receive final feedback from us with an acceptance or rejection.

  • It is best to apply for an advertised position as early as possible, but always within the application deadline (which can be found in the advertisement). ⏰

  • Yes, you can apply for multiple positions as long as your qualifications match the requirements. 🎭

  • The length of the hiring process depends on many factors and cannot be predicted. ❌ The entire application process usually takes two to three months, but this can vary.

  • Your personal data will be stored by us for 6 months in accordance with applicable data protection regulations and then automatically deleted. 💌

  • The chances of success for an unsolicited application are the same as for an advertised position 🙂 However, there may not be a current need for staff in the area you are applying for. We always have to check whether a suitable position is available or will be available soon – so it may take some time before you receive an answer.

  • ✅ The most important thing is a complete resume.

In addition to your education, work experience and relevant skills, please include other information such as language travel or hobbies so we can get to know you better.

✅ We will also need to see a current transcript of your highest degree.

If additional documentation is required, it will either be specifically stated in the job posting or we will request it later. You may find it helpful to include well-graded papers on a comparable subject, work references, or other credentials.

✅ A cover letter is not always required, but it can help clarify inconsistencies in your resume or express your motivation for joining us.

Examples of inconsistencies include gaps in your resume, a distant place of residence, or special experience relevant to the position.

💚 Of course, we will only store your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy and will always keep it strictly confidential.

  • A strong application highlights your skills that best fit the position. If you have specific experience that is relevant to the position, it is best to highlight this in your cover letter.

The motivation behind your application is also important to us. Do you enjoy the field of research? Did you write your thesis on a related topic? Or were you inspired by an internship in the field? This allows us to assess whether your interests overlap with the position before an interview.

Otherwise, a professional format and presentation of your application documents will help you to make a positive impression 😉.

  • At the Fraunhofer ILT, full-time means 39 hours per week. However, we also offer the opportunity to work part-time. It is possible to adjust your working hours later on.

  • Your start begins with an individualized induction period and colleagues who are always available to answer your questions. 🤝 However, the structure is the responsibility of each department and will vary internally. If you have already applied, it is best to ask this question during your interview or with the contact person mentioned in the job advertisement.

  • There is no induction program, but there is a quarterly information session for new employees where you can gain various insights.
